Pinroy’s goddess is gone, but her high priest, Tritor gives us each a boon for our defeat of the Sun Lich and restoring the balance back to her realm. He tells us that Atherion wants us to destroy the staff, but first we have to find Grimgold to get the other half of the shard.
We had out, back the way we came and soon discovered that we are the most wanted adventurers in the Sea of Dust. Demons, devils, giants, you name it, they want us. Wave tricks two demon bird things by throwing his quarterstaff to them when they demand the Sun Lich’s staff, and the birdbrains disappear with a squeal of delight. The next encounter is not so easy as we come across a makeshift giant camp. Zoltember, son of Duke Zolto, who was a big shot in the destruction of Geoff is running the show. We are ill-prepared and get separated from Wave who climbed the only tree to get a lay of the land. They bombarded him with rocks, and we weren’t able to get to him before they picked him up and brought him into their camp.
We ran, because that was all we could do. We ran back to where Atherion’s mercenaries in the hopes we could enlist some of them to help us save Wave.
There was only one mercenary squad still at the battlefield led by Sir Robert. He agreed to help us defeat the giants, though his men were few. An envoy from Grimgold was also waiting for us, Chillax. He was sent to take us to Grimgold so we could go to the City of Warmth and destroy the staff. We said we weren’t going without trying to save Wave.
We arrive back at the stronghold and Oberon and Scorch head to one side while Pinroy and Chillax stay on the other side. The plan was for me to sneak in and find Wave and then Pinroy dig a hole and pull him through while Oberon, Scorch, and the mercenaries keep the giants busy.
I find Wave…or what’s left of him. They had dismembered him. Those bastards. Pinroy was worried about me and popped out of his hole calling for me and then all hell broke loose. We were lucky, but Sir Robert and his men were not. We were able to destroy all the giants and their minions, but what good did it do…we couldn’t save Wave. We bury him and the mercenaries and then continue our journey back to Boartore.
