Thank Belindapoop for the Orb of Restoration and for Pinroy’s keen sight in near darkness. He was able to see a giant purple creature and more undead Sun Lich Elite. He saw a bridge with one archer and a ledge he thought we could possible get up on as other guards were there – but no big purple giant creature. Wave and I sneak ahead to get a rope in place when the purple guy must see our shadows. “Who is there?” he says in a voice that tells us he is not as smart as Pinroy. We think fast and I call out “Sun Lich Elite.”
He seems surprised we survived…and a bit disappointed. “The Master won’t be pleased,” he moaned. Was he referring to Bill? Is Bill home?? So much for slipping in, finding the shard and slipping out again.
Oberon, Pinroy and Scorch begin to chant behind us and Oberon says in his deepest Sun Lich Elite voice that we’ll watch the tunnel they should go guard something else. Being of little brain, purple guy and his minions wander away. Wave and I get up and while Wave begins to bring folks up I sneak up and quietly kill the only guard. Bill is not a very careful dragon.
Once all up on the ledge we go to the left as Pinroy doesn’t see any guards. Wave and I lead, Pinroy close by whispering what is happening. There is a guard who strays a little too close and Wave brings him down with an arrow. There is a bridge that crosses the cavern and just past the bridge, glittering just in the reaches of our sight is the largest, most sparkly, most glimmering pile of treasure any of us had seen anywhere. I think Wave was drooling. We all itch to climb down and just bury ourselves in the gold coin. What a treasure – we could all die rich. Sister and I could have a first class circus performing for kings and queens. Wave could have his own ship and own the seas. Pinroy could eat rats until he burst. Oberon…Scorch…I have no idea what either one of them would do with their money. If we survive this I’ll have to find out.
We checked out the rest of the ledge and try to find the best way down. We saw red robed cultist kneeling before an alter – bodies of the sacrificed all around. Further down we found a cavern filled with prisoners, they waited silently for their fate. “If we make the door in there we can get them out,” Scorch said.
“We’ll come for them after we get the treasure,” Wave said. “If we save them now they will make too much noise.” We agreed and we continued back the way we came and found a ruin house not far from the treasure pile. Since sister wasn’t there to throw me, Pinroy allowed me to use his body as a runway and I launched out and easily landed on the balcony. Scorch and Wave easily came over, but Oberon slipped and fell catching himself with feather fall so he landed silently on his feet. Pinroy said there was some cult guy talking to the pile of treasure. We regrouped and thought we should spread out, Oberon and I sneaking up on the cult guy and then all of us would unleash on him.
“…the ritual is almost complete,” he was telling the pile. “Soon you will have more power, larger, older once you give us the shard.” The treasure shifted slightly. BILL WAS IN THE TRASURE PILE!
We attacked, all of us stabbing and shooting and firebolting him. He dusted his robes off and laughed. “Pitiful, you can’t hurt the right hand man of the Sun Lich. “ And then he vanishes. Pinroy said he appeared in the doorway of a house at the other side of the cavern.
“More like the left hand man of the Sun Lich,” I said to Wave.
“More like the scaredy cat of the Sun Lich,” Wave countered as he approached the treasure pile and reached toward a huge golden cat’s eye gem when the gem winked at him and Bill erupted out of the pile, a sword skittering toward Wave, who gave it a quick glance but pulled out his dragon piercing arrows that he had been saving for this occasion.
Bill comes out of the treasure breathing fire. I was able to dodge it but Wave and Oberon were not so lucky. I can’t see Scorch or Pinroy. Wave lets loose his two arrows and Bill roars in pain as they bite deep. Suddenly a golden light fills him and from another ruin two acolytes send beams of light on Bill. Oberon misty steps atop Bill and yells that they are healing him. They are lit up with Scorch’s fireball but the beams continue. Wave runs to the ruins loading two more arrows while Oberon and I attack from top and bottom. Bill, his hatred for Wave great uses his fire to bring down the building Wave was hiding in. I see Wave dive out of the building and collapse, not moving.
I run toward Wave as only his arrows are going to save us. I poured a potion down his throat and get him back on my feet. I yell to Pinroy that we need help. I see him shambling towards us out of the darkness, Bill’s attention turns toward him as he tries and scratch off Oberon who is hanging on, tenacious as a flea. He calls for his minions to come to him and purple dude and the right hand coward of the sun lich are heading to join the fight. “Time to leave!” Oberon calls. “Scorch draw the door. Everyone get to Scorch.”
Wave sends two more arrows toward Bill, one cutting deep into his chest the moment pushing it out the front and the second pierces his heart and he crashes to the ground.
“Change of plans,” Oberon shouts, “get to the acolytes!” They are still sending healing beams to Bill. I shoot one with a bolt and Oberon takes the other.
Pinroy begins to tunnel through the treasure pile – I hope for the shard, but he could have been after a rat.
Bill gets up once, but Wave takes him down again before he can even draw another breath and we between the four of us we finally take down the acolytes and Bill, the Red Dragon, will rise no more. We don’t have time to catch our breath as the Coward lich points a finger at Oberon and he falls where he stands, dead. Wave grabs the sword that had landed at his feet earlier and goes after the Cowardly Lich. The moment he grabs the sword the cursed sword crumbles to dust. I take on the purple giant who seems lost now that Bill is gone. So I tell him we will kill him, or he can join us. He agrees to join us and goes and takes out the other Sun Lich Elite sneaking up behind us.
Pinroy crawls back out of the pile with a staff in hand, stuffing the shard in his bag. Cowardly Lich will be angry. “Help Oberon,” I shout. “He’s dead.” And Scorch and I head to help Wave who was battling the Cowardly Lich. Once again Belindapoop listens to her greatest champion and spares Oberon and he comes hacking back to life.
Once again Cowardly Lich runs and taunts us with his greatness. I start clucking at him like the chicken he is. He starts an earthquake. He may be a chicken lich but he is a powerful one. Wave and Pinroy run for the prisoners. We all take a second look…Wave given up treasure to help prisoners…something is not right with Wave.
I yell for my purple buddy we’re leaving and I hear from the darkness “Coming.” The ground begins to shake more and stalagmites begin to fall from the ceiling. Scorch, Oberon and I grab what treasure we can and then I pick up Scorch and race after Pinroy and Wave, Purple Buddy not far behind. Scorch draws the circle and we all walk out the door into the courtyard, free.
We make our way back to Boartore and we receive Platinum membership with the Adventurer’s Guild and meet the guild’s biologist who can help us become stronger, faster, more agile adventurers. Purple Buddy joins and decides to stay in Boartore. I give him 20 gold for all his help.
