HALLOWEEN ADVENTURE

We headed to Bill’s lair and Wave spied the entrance through his spy glass.  There was a wide flat expanse full of brush and some ruins and rocks.  It looked like a battlefield with dead and wounded scattered about.  Some seemed to be from the same army unit while others were dead a very long time.

Two very large demon/undead guards watched the entrance and there were siege machines and archers up top. We came up with a plan that we would stealth a bit closer and then Scorch would make Wave and I invisible and we would sneak up and see what we were dealing with.  Mr. Scary, Scorch’s crow would come with us so we could send him back if we need help. Once we scouted ahead we would report back.

We were about to start forward when Pinroy’s eyes rolled back in his head and he levitated a few feet above us.  He begin to mutter and groan (a bit loud for our taste but he couldn’t hear us).  A minute or so later he came down to earth and in his hand was an orb.  A boon from Belindapoop. “An orb of restoration,” breathed Pinroy. “When we are so tired and hurt and feel we can’t go on, we hold hands and form a circle and this will restore us as if we had a looong sleep.”  I am not much of a god worshiper, but if I was forced to choose, the lobster lady would have prayers.

We make our way to a large rock and Wave, Mr. Scary, and I started forward.  It was a grisly scene of carnage and death all around.  A full plated Paladin laid face down his sword just beyond his reach.  As we past he grabbed out and grasp Wave’s ankle.  He was beyond sight of our world now and whispered, “Don’t bury me here.”  We noticed he had a symbol from Furyundy.  His grasp loosened as he breathed his last.

There was a crypt to our left and both Wave and I tried to open it, but it did not have a any handle and there was a key lock but no key.  There was an almost dead…or undead who was almost dead again…leaning against the crypt wall who kept muttering, “Sun Lich Elite. Sun Lich Elite.”

We made our way along the wall way from the line of sight of the archers and toward the demon guards.  They both sniffed the air.  We are able to peek in the cavern and see a cart pushed by a giant dead zombie with three more pulling.  The cart seemed to be part of the giant’s body and inside bodies squirmed and jerked.  As he walked by, he picked up the dead from the entrance and threw them in the cart as they made their way to the entrance.  “I smells something,” grunted one of the demons, and that was our cue to leave.

We make it back to the others who have moved up to the crypt and as we are about to tell them what we saw we hear the cart creaking out of the mouth cave.  Scorch seems more occupied with the runes on the crypt and says, “Here holds Darlich, the great servant of the Sun Lich.”  We decide we rather not open the door even if we find a key.  Scorch does mark the door in case we need a quick getaway with his magic chalk.

We decide to try to sneak pass the guards but Pinoy trips Oberon with his tail and they know we’re here.  A catapult stone on fire flies passed us smacking further to the right of us.  The guards come after us and we keep outside of the archers line of site.  It is a tough fight but we manage to bring down the guards and the wagon zombie and start toward the cavern when we hear the stomping of feet and the clomping of horses hooves.  A chant of “Sun Lich Elite, Sun Lich Elite” shake us to our bones.  Four horsemen come galloping out with an army of undead behind them.  We steal ourselves for another battle, ignoring the wounds we are already bleeding from.

The undead are in plate and half plate – even their undead horses are armored.  Wave clamors up a rock and jumps onto the bald dead knight knocking him off his horse.  Pinroy calls on Belindapoop to rain down on them and Scorch does what Scorch does best…lights them up.  I feel the turn, but this time it feels more powerful, more animalistic and I turn full wolf launching myself at one of the knights biting deep into exposed flesh. I am slashed by his broad sword and I feel the life draining from me.  I think I call out to Pinroy before I fall.

I come to with Pinroy’s lizard face leaning over me and I gulp down the rest of the healing potion and struggle to my feet.  Wave has a new sword and his eyes seem to be almost red.  A voice fills my mind and I see Pinroy’s eyes go wide – he too hears it.  Destroy the knight. I am FINALLY with a living being again.

We rally and bring down the undead knights.  The sword continues its banter in our heads.  I can tell Pinroy is afraid of it, but Wave is clutching it like it is his most prize possession.   He mutters something under his breath and Wave slumps to the ground, the sword still clutched in his fist.  We can’t loosen his grip even in his sleep.  “The sword is evil,” Pinroy whispers. “It is very evil.”

“Is it making Wave evil?” Scorch plucked at Mr. Scary’s feather eyeing the sword nervously.

Wave awakes and leans against a rock, eyes closed, stroking the sword.  “Mine,” he whispers to himself.  I don’t like this sword either, Wave is giving me the heebie-jeebies. Blood.  I want blood. Yup, definitely an evil sword.

We tell Wave that we aren’t going any further with him if he keeps that sword.  Wave says he can’t get rid of it, and there is nothing wrong with the sword.  Pinroy insists that the sword be sheathed and once away the hold on Wave lessons a bit.  Wave promises to keep it sheathed until we can find a way to get the cursed sword away from him.

We head into the cave closer to Bill’s hoard.
