The boys came over early afternoon and over thinly sliced turkey on toasted rye bread and fruit we came up with a plan to infiltrate the Warehouse and find out who in the nine hells was Lifton Wales and why he had a bounty on us.
Raelin told us that the warehouse district consisted of multiple large buildings in different stages of ruin. Seemed like this district sprang up from the old city using many of the ruin foundations to build off of. Some warehouses were in better condition than others. The Iron Wolves protrolled the district so we would need papers to get through. Raelin and Samus figured they could forge some.
Next we talked about a plan. At first we had a rouse that we would get a wagon from the docks and pose as warehouse workers and say we were the night shift and then feign that the wheel broke off the wagon and we were trying to fix it while we cased 473 Stepway Lane. I felt too much could go wrong with that plan so we came up with a bold as brass plan. We would still go in as warehouse workers with the forge papers, but once in the warehouse district we would act as bounty hunters and bring in what Lifton Wales wanted – The Bender. Friz would be our leader, Nine our muscle keeping hold of Samus and Raelin and I would be the lookouts. Guard patrols within the district were easily avoided as you could see them coming yards away with their lanterns blaring.
Friz was amazing – talking his way easily into the guards and giving them a nice tip to look the other way. On our way to 473 Stepway Lane we meet Trig – a pouch woman for Daddy Colburn who I had no idea who he was, but both Bender and Raelin flinched at the name. Apparently this Daddy Colburn has his hand in most districts as he is the head of the Dark Society. I start to pull out a spell component from my pouch about to light this lackey up, when Friz tosses her a pouch and casually says to give our regards to Daddy. She weighs it expertly and then eases back in the shadows, satisfied the toll to walk in the district was paid.
We hear footsteps to the right and left of us, but see nobody. We arrive in the district and assume our roles as bounty hunters. Raelin and I both change appearance and Friz puts on a mask. There is one humanoid carrying a crate on the opposite end of the warehouse and we continue to the office when we hear voices.
“I brought you the Bender,”
I look over at Samus who shrugs.
“Mr Wells – where are his associates.”
“Interrogate him and you’ll get the others from him, my Lord.”
We open the door and see a human that looks nothing like Samus laying on the floor dazed with a bounty hunter standing over him dressed all in black. Behind the desk is a Priest of Nerull and two acolytes stand in opposite corners. They don’t bother to even let us tryout our ruse – they attack instantly.
Samus goes for the priest while Nine goes after Wells. We can’t hit the damn clerics because they have up sanctuary. We finally get them all down and stabilize one asking what he knows about Obscura and he says there is a trap door outside the office that leads to the basement where they keep some of the prisoners. In a rare act of violence, Friz kills the man. I don’t know if he is angry about Obscura or that he hats the church of Nerull – but I have never known Friz to take the life of an unarmed man. After we get back home I will have to see how he is doing. Many this type of ARTS work is too much for a healer to handle.
We go through the office hoping for some clues about Obscura. We take:
· Three necklaces of Nerull (Protection +1) (S, A, R)
· Pouch off the priest, Vale – 98 gp, 17 small gems
· Pouch off acolytes – 19 gp, 28 SP, 6 small gems
· Chest – 2,704 gp
· Bone Tube – scroll – Silence, Hold Person, Hold Monster
· Keys
· Bone tube – Scroll – Glyph of Warding
· Manacles – hit, make grappling check “You’re coming with me”
· Parchment sheet, quill, bottle – black substance
· Book with page of list of Bounties – Obscura is on the list. She was taken by a bounty hunter called Rathman.
We leave the dead Nerull followers and Bounty Hunter and go search for Obscura in the basement.
